What’s a classic day like for you?
A typical day at Nazarian Law always starts with the breathtaking views of Lake Ontario. The legal profession is inherently high-pressure and we often walk the waterfront for peace and serenity. Additionally, we take pride in fostering connections with fellow entrepreneurs as we discover local businesses in our vibrant neighbourhood.
With the pressures in your job – is that why you chose to open Nazarian Law at the waterfront?
Indeed, the bustling vitality of Toronto’s waterfront presents an ideal environment for professionals, and my appreciation for the restorative influence of nature has only been amplified in the face of the pandemic.
The eastern region of Toronto’s waterfront is currently undergoing a remarkable transformation. Leading entities like the Waterfront Innovation Centre, Limberlost Place, and George Brown College have been instrumental in establishing the region as a burgeoning epicenter for Toronto’s startups and tech enterprises, earning it the nickname of Canada’s innovation hub or innovation district.
Our strategic choice to establish Nazarian Law within the Daniels Building was also motivated by its rare offering of office ownership. This selection facilitates an investment into a high-value real estate asset, instead of merely disbursing rental payments, further strengthening our roots in this vibrant community.
What do you love most about the waterfront community?
As a board member of the Waterfront Business Improvement Area (BIA), I am privileged to play an active role in steering the community towards the realization of its vision and further deepening my engagement in local affairs. One notable initiative among many that we passionately support is the Waterfront East Light Rail Transit (LRT) project. We envision this project as a pivotal move to bolster connectivity and augment public transit in our region, thereby promoting accessibility and continued growth of this thriving community.
How did you first get into law?
My entry into the legal profession can be traced back to my early years, marked by a pronounced curiosity and a propensity to continually challenge conventional wisdom.
As a young adult in my early twenties, while pursuing a Business degree at Concordia University in Montreal, I came to appreciate the indispensability of skilled accountants and legal professionals in the smooth operation and effective governance of any enterprise.
The catalyst that truly ignited my passion for law was a personal encounter with injustice, adversely affecting my family’s business. This incident not only accentuated the importance of a legal recourse but also triggered a profound transformation of my aspirations towards a legal career. It became a personal endeavor, driven by a determination to safeguard my family’s interests and a commitment to uphold justice.
What exactly made you open your own law firm?
In the course of my professional journey within the legal sector, I recognized a notable void in the market concerning the caliber of legal services rendered. Regrettably, there was a frequent pattern of client discontent stemming from subpar communication, a lack of prompt responsiveness, and minimal transparency.
Recognizing these deficiencies, I was confident in my ability to address these issues by leveraging technology to bolster communication and client relationship management. Despite the apparent sluggishness of the legal industry in adopting contemporary technologies and streamlining their workflows, I was resolved to undertake this endeavor in an effort to effect a transformative shift in the legal landscape.
I attribute the favorable response of our clientele, as evidenced by our receipt of over 200 positive Google reviews, to our dedication towards bridging this market gap, thereby enhancing the client experience through our uniquely progressive approach.
What’s the best advice you have ever received?
The best guidance I have ever received emphasizes the importance of unwavering integrity. It encourages a commitment to ethical conduct, which is integral to establishing trust and credibility.
Additionally, my father instilled the significance of education. He emphasized that an education, once acquired, is not merely a personal asset but a responsibility to leverage in a manner that contributes positively to society.
What’s the best advice you can give?
I firmly believe that the cornerstone of human interaction is treating others with unyielding kindness, empathy, and respect. These fundamental virtues shape our approach toward people and are particularly relevant in our chosen profession.
As legal professionals, it is our obligation not just to serve as representatives in the legal system, but also to embody understanding, compassion, and respect towards our clients, acknowledging their unique situation.
When starting a business, what is one thing you think everyone should know?
When initiating a business venture or startup business, one indispensable piece of advice I’d impart is the importance of securing legal consultation at the onset. In other words, it’s prudent for business owners to engage their corporate counsel right from the inception of their enterprise.
This proactive legal involvement is crucial in foreseeing potential challenges and implementing preventative measures. By anticipating and addressing possible issues at the earliest stage, costly errors can be circumvented. Consequently, this strategy results in substantial long-term savings, while also fostering an environment conducive to the business’s steady growth and stability.
…what about when it comes to real estate?
When it comes to real estate, conducting comprehensive due diligence prior to engaging in any property transaction is paramount. This entails a thorough examination of the property’s history, identifying potential risks, and gaining a firm understanding of the pertinent legal considerations. By undertaking these steps, you are in a position to make informed decisions and mitigate the likelihood of unanticipated setbacks.
