Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
The Waterfront BIA has been a long-time supporter of the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (BBTCA) and has advocated for extensions of agreements that govern the airport’s future.
The BIA’s advocacy on behalf of the airport includes requests to continue and expand upon major community benefits where The Toronto Port Authority and BBTCA have taken a lead, including area events, public art activation as well as Inner Harbour cleaning programs where they have led.
July 2026 - Letter of principles on BBTCA Airport Potential Expansion and Waterfront Impacts, distributed to Transport Canada as part of their first window of consultation and feedback regarding future plans and expansion for the island airport. The WBIA will request further opportunity to provide more detailed feedback once plans are made public.
The most recent Item at City Council (EX17.5) extended the term of the tri-partite agreement to 2045. Further extension of the agreement are expected soon alongside approvals for the Runway End Safety Extension (RESA project website) mandated by Transport Ontario by Q2 2027.
