Food Rescue: Re-purposing Surplus Food

Second Harvest is the largest food recovery organisation in Canada, providing healthy food to over 250 social service organisations.
They are developing a new program for restaurant and retail donations called Foodrescue.ca.
Foodrescue.ca will be an easy-to-use, free online system for food businesses to post their surplus food and connect directly to social service organisations.
All social service organisations participating in the program are vetted by Second Harvest to ensure they are public health inspected, safe food handling certified and adhere to terms of use agreement. Once approved, Second Harvest will provide the social service organisations with an insulated bag, cooler packs and thermometers to ensure safe food transportation.
They will be beta-testing and pilot the website throughout February and March with the official launch set for June 2018.
